Cane Bay Day

Follow me to the north shore, where the beats are bumping, the waves are splashing, and the community vibe is strong. On holidays in St. Croix (like Labor Day), school’s out, many folks get the day off, and people seem to drift toward the water. Whether you’re seeking sand between the toes, beach games, or libations, Cane Bay is a lovely spot to relax and have fun.

Even though I go to beaches a lot with my family, sometimes, the water feels a little scary. Maybe it’s the big waves. Maybe it’s because I can’t see to the bottom. But today, I was all in (well, up to my belly). The water was remarkably clear and calm. There was even beautiful sea glass along the shore. My family reminded me sea glass isn’t for eating. I’m pretty sure my sister will use it to make jewelry.

For a small dog like me, this felt like a large beach. This meant lots of people and lots of laughter.  While my human siblings played frisbee in the waves with friends I chilled with Mom and Dad. They picked the best relaxation station because it was right next to a bush full of chicken bones (I don’t think they realized that). I managed to crunch one or two before Dad swooped in. What can I say? You can take the dog off the street, but you can’t take the street out of the dog. For those seeking more than old bones, there are plenty of beach bars you can go to refuel. They are pretty laid back. Not too busy. Not too chaotic. Mostly just relaxed fun.

If you ever find yourself in St. Croix, Cane Bay is worth the trip. Sunshine, music, laughter, and maybe even a hidden snack or two if you know where to look. (Check under the bushes. Trust me.)
