My Story.
Hi! My name is Zucarita, but you can call me Zuka, Zu, Zu Baby, or Weasel (because I tend to weasel into places I shouldn’t go). I spent my early days on the west end of St. Croix, USVI. After some scary moments, I found my way to an animal shelter on the island I called home.

The shelter had a special program where humans could take you out for the day. They’d love you, care for you, and help you meet other nice humans. I liked that. It gave me a break from the endless barks and meows at the shelter.
One day, two young kids and their dad picked me up from the shelter for a day out. We took a long car ride to the east end of the island. The whole way there, I showed the two kids all the adorable I had to offer. Their dad kept saying, “Don’t get attached. We have to have him back to the shelter by 5 p.m.”
But then, we got to the easternmost point of the island and met the mom. Of course, the mom saw how precious I was. I gave her my “Don’t you want to love me forever?” eyes. Her kids gave her their “Can’t we just love him forever?” eyes.

Then… long story short… I only spent one more night at the shelter while my family finalized the adoption.
They took me off the island to a place called Wisconsin. It was cold. I adjusted. And I met a bunch of other animal family members.
Now, I’ve convinced them all to come back with me to the island for a year.
You’ll hear a lot about me in this blog. You’ll also hear a lot about them—because, well, we make a great team, and we are one BIG, beautiful family!
