Beyond the Bay: Caring for Our Common Home

I’m just going to put this out there — I think I’ve been a pretty courageous dude lately. I know I already told you about my bravery in the water at Jack Bay, but that wasn’t the only brave thing I did on our recent adventure. After my refreshing swim, my human siblings, mom, and I decided to wander a little farther down the shoreline, eventually making our way all the way to Horseshoe Bay. There were so many beautiful things to see — unique rocks, shimmering conch shells, and bits of coral washed up along the shore. Sadly, we also came across a lot of trash.
It was unpleasant to see so much litter because the beach would’ve been more beautiful without it. But for me, there was something even more devastating about the trash. You see, there was a time in my life when I didn't have a house to call a home (or a family for that matter). I know how important a good home is, so I want humans to protect theirs!
If all this garbage is being left behind or washed ashore, it makes me wonder how well humans are caring for their home. And you know what? The earth isn’t just home to humans! They share it with all of us creatures too. Whether we have four legs, two, one, or none — whether we live in condos, water, or trees — Earth is an incredibly beautiful, shared home. That means we should all take care of it! My humans talk a lot about taking responsibility for our belongings. I think it would be good to be more responsible for the planet entrusted to us.
On a happier note, the crabs at Horseshoe Bay were fascinating! To spot them, I channeled my inner mountain goat and climbed carefully along the rocky mountainside. I had to watch my paws — nobody wants a crab pinching their toes! After exploring Horseshoe Bay, we collected my dad and dog sister from the beach where they’d been lounging so we could hike back to our car. I’m really glad Kona didn’t poop out on the hike back, she’s a heavy one to carry! Upon returning to the car, Kona got to ride in the back of the pickup, ears flapping in the wind, while I curled up on my human mom’s lap. Not a bad ending for a brave day.
