Back with the people I love!

I haven’t been able to write this week because my mom took her computer to Puerto Rico and didn’t take me with her. Actually, my whole human family was gone for the week. But now that they’re back, I can finally return to blogging! First, I want to tell you all about my week, and once I’ve heard all the juicy details about their trip to our neighboring island, I’ll fill you in on that too.

While the humans were in Puerto Rico, the Newfies and I took a little vacation of our own to the dog spa. I think the humans called it “boarding” at the vet clinic, but with all the treats, attention, and that deliciously scented bath, it felt more like a spa getaway to me. Not everything went smoothly, though. For example, my sister Kona decided to channel her inner escape artist and jumped over the fence meant to keep pups in. One second she was in the yard, and the next, she was exploring the forbidden lands outside the fence. The humans at the kennel seemed surprised, but I wasn’t. I’ve always suspected a four-foot chain link fence couldn’t contain that beast. Me? I usually try the underground escape route — it’s why they call me Weasel. But this time, I was on my best behavior. My brother Moca was a good boy too, though he did lose his voice after trying to talk to every person and creature who passed by. He used to do that back in Wisconsin when he told the coyotes what’s what with endless barks.

Overall, the week went surprisingly well. Since it was our first time ever being boarded, our humans were naturally a little anxious. Turns out we’re tougher (and cuter) than they gave us credit for. The humans at the clinic couldn’t stop telling us how wonderful we were. Still, I missed my family a lot. I started barking like crazy the second I heard their voices at pickup. When I finally saw them, I let them know how thrilled I was by performing what can best be described as an interpretive dance of pure joy and love. The Newfies tried to dance too, but let’s just say they both have four left paws. Gotta love the effort though.

After giving each other some really good sniffs and saying goodbye to our new friends at the clinic, we piled into the car — the Newfies blow-drying their luscious locks in the back of the pickup, while I rode shotgun on Mom’s lap. It feels so good to be home again — with the people I love and the cats I’m learning to love.
